Ready for the most crazy news? Last week, I was contacted by the lovely folks over at RedBeacon.com and informed me that I have been selected as a Redbeacon 2013 Home Service Award Winner in the category of Best Girls Bedrooms of 2013. Redbeacon is a Home Depot company whose mission is to connect consumers with the best service providers to meet their needs. (So if you're needing some design work done — you might want to head on over!)
She said they put in over 10 staff hours to search through 250,000+ images and I was one of seven professionals (even though they did realize I'm a DIY-er) who have been selected for my work. Impressive, right?! Pleased, I clicked on the link to the blog post. And then, I started laughing. Out loud. This is the girls' room:
Mr. Maker and I did everything ourselves. The beds were made out of free shipping pallets. Most of the furniture was 2nd or 3rd generation hand-me-downs that I may or may not have refinished. I made all of their bedding. The floors were done in pine because we liked the beat-up look that they would soon take on. All-in-all, my point is that we created this room very cheaply. $500 or so — of which I'm VERY proud of. It was my favorite room in the old Practice House.
However, I started laughing when I saw the other rooms. Not because they were awful — quite the opposite!! These are rooms that are done by professionals! With big budgets. And a castle. (Seriously.)
Among the other 6 designers? Candice Olson — who has a tv show.
Yes. Me and my pallet beds alongside someone with their own TV show. Somebody pinch me!! xoxo Lori Danelle
